Dear friends and colleagues,
The Brazilian community working on high pressure is proud to host the 27th AIRAPT International Conference on High Pressure Science and Technology (AIRAPT27) in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from August 4th to 9th, 2019. This event keeps the tradition of bringing together a wide interdisciplinary community every two years since 1965. The conference venue will be in the Convention Center of the Windsor Barra Hotel, a 5 stars hotel located in the region of Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The conference brings together a multidisciplinary international community whose focus is on fundamental and applied research at extreme pressure conditions, as well as on the associated technology and instrumentation. This community belongs to different areas such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Geosciences and Biology. The wide range of topics encompasses electronic, magnetic and optical properties of materials, geophysics and planetary sciences, synthesis and properties of new materials, biosciences, crystallography and phase transformations.
This is a unique environment for updating, discussing and setting of research priorities and strategies. In addition, the conference also aims at updating the participants on the state-of-the-art of high-pressure technology.
Despite we did not reach the expected number of participants, we are proud of the quality of the scientific program and the possibility of having an important proportion of oral presentations which may motivate exciting discussions.
The Scientific Program of the Conference includes 8 opening lectures (including Bridgman and Jamieson awards lectures, 5 plenary lectures, and a Hot Topic Plenary Session on Superconducting Hydrides), 41 keynote lectures, 96 oral communications, and more than 70 posters. We have also scheduled special sessions for the International Practical Pressure Scales Symposium. The opening lectures will involve the following topics of great relevance and very high scientific impact.
An open access volume of Journal of Physics: Conference Series (IOP Publishing) will be available for publication of accepted papers for the 27th AIRAPT Conference Proceedings. The electronic publication will include html headers, linkable references and full-text PDF files of articles. The deadline for submission is January, 15th 2020.
As an important complement, to enhance the impact of the AIRAPT Conference in Brazil and taking advantage of development of the extreme conditions beamline at SIRIUS in 2019, a satellite event on Synchrotron techniques under high pressure (PRESSYNC) is organized in Campinas, the week before the AIRAPT27: https://pages.cnpem.br/pressync/.
This conference is having representative of 24 countries giving the opportunity for the establishment of future collaborations. It is important to notice that 23% of participants are women.
Rio de Janeiro is more than ever a city suited to host international conferences and all efforts were made to provide you a most exciting conference. The city is a convenient setting for a few days of vacation with your family, and a gateway for a visit to Brazil. On Wednesday afternoon you will have the opportunity to discover this beautiful city. Some evening programs can be organized with our official travel agency.
We encourage the attendees to enjoy the conference and the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian high pressure community is happy to have you in Brazil in 2019; we welcome all of you to Rio de Janeiro and wish a pleasant and very good scientific meeting.
The organizers,
